Those of you who (like us) were hoping for a word from TNT on the Scent of the Missing pilot before the end of the ongoing 2012 Upfronts are unfortunately in for a letdown. According to Tricia via her official Twitter account @trutriciahelfer, the network has opted to delay its decision on whether or not to pick up the canine search-and-rescue procedural.

@chrisdvanne @now7grandkids Unfortunately we’re going to have to wait longer to find out now. Possibly end of June. (May 15)

The word online is that TNT is currently looking to have more procedural-type pilots filmed before making a decision.

What a bummer, but good things come to those who wait, right?

“I need your help, Andrew, and in return I’ll help you.”
- Alex Clark

As always, hope everyone was able to tune in to The Firm on NBC last night — if you weren’t, you can now catch the episode online on NBC.com. Meanwhile, here’s our summary of the episode, 1.16 “Chapter Sixteen”, beginning with a quick recap:

The trial against Kevin Stack (Martin Donovan) for the murder of Andrew gets underway with a probable cause hearing, and Abby (Molly Parker) has to take the stand as the prosecution’s key witness. Abby delivers her testimony solidly and thus finally reveals to Mitch (Josh Lucas) the full extent of what happened to her during her capture, but still struggles to come to terms with both her experiences and Mitch’s responsibility in everything that’s happened. Meanwhile, Alex (Tricia Helfer) becomes increasingly aware of her own responsibility in Andrew’s death, but is even more rattled when Stack demands to be allowed to testify at the hearing, against all reason and basic legal strategy. When Stack then makes a critical mistake during his cross-examination, the highly incriminating hard drive which Alex had previously gotten suppressed is suddenly brought back into the game. Realizing he’s lost the battle, Stack breaks out of custody and kidnaps Mitch, ultimately revealing to him all of his grand plan for Noble Insurance and his devoted soldiers, but then in a shock move kills himself instead of Mitch.

What a ride it’s been. Personally, I had rather hoped the Stack conspiracy storyline would continue until the end, but at the same time I really enjoyed the rather delicious conclusion the story was brought to last night. Tricia’s really grown into her role as Alex, and it really showed in last night’s episode; I particularly enjoyed Alex’s first talk with Stack and her aggressive cross-examination of Molly Parker’s Abby. Was a really nice surprise to see Shaun Majumder appear in this episode as well, and Parker delivered once again another fantastic, emotional performance. :) 122 HD screen captures of Tricia’s appearance on the show have been uploaded to the gallery.

The next episode of The Firm airs next Saturday, May 19. Tricia will be guest starring so be sure to tune in!

Bad news. TV Wise reports NBC has opted not to renew its licensing deal with Sony Pictures Television for The Firm, “effectively canceling the series” in the U.S.

I have also learned that NBC has opted not to renew its licensing deal for the Sony Pictures Television/eOne produced The Firm, effectively cancelling the series.

[...] That said, it is unclear what effect NBC’s decision to “cancel” The Firm will actually have on the series. To be specific, as we mentioned above, the network has opted not to renew its licensing deal for the series. However, the show’s 22 episode had been ordered by Sony Pictures Television for their global portfolio of AXN channels long before NBC boarded the series as the US broadcaster. As such, I’m told that it is still possible for Sony to renew the series for their 125+ AXN stations across EMEA, but either way you likely won’t be seeing the series in the United States.

At this point it’s unclear whether this’ll have any immediate effects on the broadcast of the remaining episodes of Season 1. As of yet, the next two episodes 1.16 and 1.17 are still on the NBC schedule, but beyond that there is no information to be had, and the network could pull the entire show off the schedule at any time.

Given the poor ratings the show has had from the beginning, we’re not surprised at the cancellation, but no less disappointed at that. We can only hope NBC will at least air all the remaining episodes and thus bring the show to a proper conclusion. :|
