NOW Toronto has a small but terrific feature with Tricia Helfer and her A Beginner’s Guide to Endings co-star Jason Jones on the making of the film, which just landed in select Canadian theaters. Full article (with audio clip) under the cut.

Q&A: Jason Jones and Tricia Helfer
By NORMAN WILNER
Jason Jones and Tricia Helfer don’t share a lot of screen time in Jonathan Sobol’s A Beginner’s Guide To Endings, but they’ve been paired up to launch the film at the 2010 Toronto Film Festival.
Fortunately, the two Canadian actors — he’s best known as a correspondent for The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, she for her work as various Cylons on Battlestar Galactica — have bonded over their work on the movie and are happy to discuss their trial by fire in Niagara Falls. Jones, Scott Caan and Paulo Costanzo play doomed brothers; Helfer turns up as Caan’s old flame who’s not exactly thrilled to have him resurface in her life.
For a comedy, this is a movie with a pretty dark heart, opening with three guys learning they could drop dead any minute. How did you find laughs in that situation?
Jones: I can only speak for myself, but you never set out to be funny. You just set out to play the scenes real, and hopefully the funny comes.
Helfer: Yeah, it’s a tough tone. If you go one way, it’s too dark and not funny; if you go the other way, it comes off as cheesy and stilted. But Jonathan [Sobol] had been lovely enough to write a whole synopsis of how he wanted to film it. So I read that first, and then read the script, so it just kind of clicked.
Jones: That’s right, he sent you guys all letters, right?
Helfer: Yeah.
Jones: Yeah, he just called me. It was like, “You want this?” [laughing] I didn’t get the respect they all got.
Sobol talks about making this movie by the seat of his pants. Is he exaggerating?
Jones: I showed up, did a costume fitting — did it in the trailer. Nothing fit; I had, like, jeans that were pinned together. I wore a hat throughout the movie, except for the first scene [we shot] because they didn’t have the hat. They threw me into the most emotional scene in the movie, so it was rough. You were just, like, run or get left behind. I think we ran.
Helfer: I was finishing up something in L.A. and was going to another film right afterward, so I literally had four days. Got in, did the fitting, had dinner with Jonathan and his wife and Scott Caan, and started filming the next day. So at least I got to have dinner.

Well, it is unfortunately as we predicted. According to an exclusive announcement by The Futon Critic, TNT has canceled its undercover cop drama Dark Blue. It will therefore not be renewed for a third season. The news via The Futon Critic:
TNT has canceled its Dylan McDermott-led drama Dark Blue after two seasons.
A network spokesperson confirmed to the site this afternoon that the network won’t be ordering a third season of the series.
The show’s 10-episode sophomore run averaged 2.25 million viewers and 0.6 rating among adults 18-49, making it the least-watched of the cable channel’s summer offerings: The Closer (7.21 million, 1.4 adults 18-49 rating), Rizzoli & Isles (6.89 million, 1.5 adults 18-49 rating), Memphis Beat (3.63 million, 0.8 adults 18-49 rating), Leverage (3.33 million, 1.0 adults 18-49 rating) and Hawthorne (3.09 million, 0.9 adults 18-49 rating).
Danny Cannon, Doug Jung, Rick Eid, Jonathan Littman and Jerry Bruckheimer were the executive producers for Warner Horizon Television.
Even though the news doesn’t come as a big surprise to us, we’re sorry to see the show go. Alex Rice, whom Tricia Helfer debuted as this season, was her first regular role on TV since Battlestar Galactica.

As you may have noticed, in the seven days that we were unable to update the site, TNT’s Dark Blue wrapped up it’s second season with back-to-back episodes two Wednesdays in a row. Since four episodes is a bit much to recap in one update, and nothing particularly dramatic happened in any of the episodes we missed character-wise, we’re just gonna go ahead and direct you straight to our HD screen caps from the latest episodes.
With Season 2 now having completed, the next question is will the show be renewed for a third season? So far, there has been no word on a third season one way or the other, and such word might be a while as well; last year, when the series’ first season debuted in July, Season 2 was not announced until early December. If that’s anything to go by, we have some months of uncertainty ahead of us yet. The TV Obsessed sums up the main pressing issue regarding the show’s future pretty well here:
[...] “Personal Effects” also works as a series finale in the likely event the show is canceled. If I’m not mistaken, Dark Blue is TNT’s worst rated original show (just below Southland) and definitely on the chopping block. After the successes of freshman dramas Memphis Beat and Rizzoli and Isles, in addition to the continued success of Hawthorne, all of which were recently renewed, TNT has no need for Dark Blue. The only thing going for Dark Blue right now is that the ratings haven’t fallen past the lowest points of the first season. Last season, everyone thought it was dead until it was renewed months and months later, so there could be hope.
Should TNT renew Dark Blue for another season, Tricia Helfer, who debuted on the show this season as FBI Agent Alex Rice, has said she would be returning for another round of episodes. I guess time (and TNT) will tell!

Tribute.ca has a fantastic, great quality video clip of Tricia Helfer at yesterday’s Toronto International Film Festival A Beginner’s Guide to Endings Press Junket in Canada, where Tricia answered a lot of questions regarding the film, her supporting role of Miranda, her co-stars and working with them, and also touched on Battlestar Galactica, Dark Blue, Lie to Me, Two and a Half Men, Phase One (very fleetingly) and Open House. The video unfortunately can’t be embedded here at this point, so please head over to Tribute.ca via the below screen cap to watch it:

Speaking of screen caps, since actual pics from the junket have really been nowhere to be found so far, except for this tweeted picture from Tricia herself, we’ve instead made a batch of pretty sharp-quality Tricia captures of the aforementioned video. As you can see, Tricia looked nothing short of divine at the event in a navy blue, satin one-shoulder David Meister cocktail dress and Swarovksi earrings. Be sure to check out the pics!

- Alex Rice
As always, we hope everyone was able to check out Tricia Helfer’s Wednesday’s appearance as FBI Agent Alex Rice on TNT’s gritty undercover cop drama, Dark Blue, starring Dylan McDermott, Omari Hardwick, Nicki Aycox and Logan Marshall-Green. Episode 2.06 “Jayne Wayne” aired last Wednesday at 9 PM on TNT.
Episode overview from the TNT website:
2.06 “Jane Wayne”
Jaimie poses as a junkie in order to infiltrate a dangerous crew of thieves who pose as DEA agents in order to steal from drug dealers. As Carter grows concerned about Jaimie’s eagerness to make the case, Ty and Dean are stuck with a loveable yet annoying informant who wants nothing more than to be a cop, just like them.
Even though this episode contained by far the least of Tricia as Alex of all Season 2 so far, to me personally, this was the best episode of the season to date. Nicki Aycox particularly shone in this episode, and it really felt like a complete package as a whole. Of course, I would’ve been very happy to see more of Tricia onscreen, but then quality doesn’t always equal quantity, and although Alex’s scenes were few this week, she had a couple of moments which quite made up for it.
Anyway, media-wise, as always, the gallery has been updated with 150 site-exclusive 720p HD screen captures of Tricia in the episode. It appears we forgot to upload the clips from last week’s episode (2.05 “Brother’s Keeper”), but we’ll try and get both those and clips from the new episode up before next week’s Dark Blue dose. Check back soon!
