Digital Journal reports Tricia Helfer will be joining photographers Robin Leyton and Seth Casteel as this year’s World Spay Day Pet Pageant judges.
The Humane Society of the United States is pleased to announce that the World Spay Day 2013 Pet Pageant has begun. Participants upload digital photos of their beloved companions and tell the world how their pets have improved their lives.
“The Pet Pageant is a great way for everyone to celebrate our furry friends this World Spay Day,” said Vicki Stevens, World Spay Day coordinator at The HSUS. “Send us your favorite photo of your pet, share a good story and help animal groups tackle pet overpopulation.”
Entrants are encouraged to share their pet’s photo and story with their friends and family and ask them to vote for their pet. Entrants will compete in the Main Pageant, and, for a $5 entry fee, can choose to enter any of five optional categories, including Best Hair, Best Smile, Most Photogenic, Best Personality and Ugly-Cute. There are two ways to win big in the pageant: winners of the Judged awards are chosen by a panel of celebrity judges, and winners of the Popular Pet awards are determined by popular vote. Learn more by visiting humanesociety.org/petpageant.
There are two winners of the Main Pageant–Judged and Popular Pet–and 10 winners from the optional categories. Prizes include:
• A $1,000 grant for spay/neuter programs awarded by The HSUS to the World Spay Day Pet Pageant participating organization of the winner’s choice
• A personalized pet collar engraved with the pet’s name and the Pageant title the pet won
• A copy of “A Letter to My Dog”
• A copy of “Underwater Dogs”
• Photo featured on The HSUS homepage in April 2013

Just a quick heads-up that according to The Boston Herald, Tricia’s upcoming guest episode on NBC’s Community is set to air February 21st.
The network also sent the screener for the Feb. 21 episode, “Conventions of Time and Space,” in which the gang attends a Doctor Who — excuse me — an Inspector Space Time convention.
Jeff is mistaken for the show’s cult villain by a beauty (Tricia Helfer, Battlestar Galactica) and Abed faces off against a super-fan (Matt Lucas, Little Britain).
Community is still kicking, with more gas and laughs than just about any other NBC sitcom. (I’m staring at your cold, dying face, The Office.)
We’re still waiting for NBC to update their press site to confirm the date (since, unless NBC is planning a double-episode on that date or either Thursday before that, February 21st would render the episode 4.03 rather than the previously reported 4.04), but mark your calendars nonetheless and we’ll keep you posted. :)
Update: The makers of the show talk about Tricia’s guest stint on the show:
The cast also spoke about some of the upcoming episodes’ bigger moments — including an arrogant ancient history professor in Malcolm McDowell, an Inspector Spacetime superfan in Battlestar Galactica‘s Tricia Helfer, and a rival for Troy in Matt Lucas’ Toby — with excitement and glee. McHale said that having Helfer in the episode was akin to “having Johnny Depp at the Pirates of the Caribbean Con.” Fandoms collide! So many fandoms. Everyone collectively “loved Matt Lucas!” and hinted that we will first see his character Toby during the big convention. (Hollywood.com)
As a writer, who was your favorite Community guest star?
Tim Saccardo: Kevin Corrigan (AKA Professor Professorson/Professor Garrity) comes to mind as a fantastic guest star. I also really liked Matt Walsh in the secret trampoline episode.
Maggie Bandur: I was a huge Battlestar Galactica fan, so I was very excited to meet Tricia Helfer. And then I — and all the men on set — were almost too scared to talk to her. Maybe it is harder being very, very beautiful. (Uproxx.com)

Fresh and insightful article and interview with Tricia Helfer from Global Toronto in which Tricia talks about among other things family, acting, filming Deadly Visions for Lifetime and tensions between cast and producers on the set of NBC’s The Firm, which concluded its first and only season last summer. Definitely worth a read! Full article under the cut.

Canada’s Tricia Helfer is ready to soar
By John R. Kennedy
TORONTO — Tricia Helfer is back home in Los Angeles after spending time in her native Canada, where she shot a TV movie and spent the holidays with her family.
The 38-year-old actress can finally cruise the canyon roads on the BMW F8000GS motorcycle she got from her husband for Christmas. “It’s a fantastic bike that I’ve wanted for awhile,” said Helfer, who also owns a Harley Davidson 1600cc Rocker C.
Helfer relocated to Los Angeles in 2002, after spending a decade in the modeling industry, to focus on her acting career.
It was a good move – Helfer quickly landed guest roles on series like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Chuck, Burn Notice, Two and a Half Men and — of course — a starring role in Battlestar Galactica.
Her most recent project was the Lifetime movie Deadly Visions, in which Helfer plays a mother with premonitions that her daughter is in danger. “My character is struggling with believing herself when everyone around her is telling her that her daughter is safe,” she explained.
“It’s not hard to draw from within yourself to play someone protective of her daughter. I have animals and I’m a daughter, sister, wife, aunt and friend, and I can be fiercely protective.”
Helfer hasn’t played many mothers. “Sometimes, if you don’t have kids yourself, it’s assumed you won’t understand or know how to play a mom,” she said, “which is kind of silly if you think about it. I’ve played robots and killers and I am a lot further from those than I am a mother!”
Has playing a mom made her think about being one? “No, it hasn’t made me want kids of my own,” she said. “Never say never, I guess. But I don’t see it happening.”

Just a quick update that director Roger Christian’s website at www.rogerchristian.ca confirms that Deadly Visions, the upcoming supernatural thriller starring Tricia Helfer, is a TV movie for Lifetime Network.
Christian is in Vancouver filming the Lifetime Network movie Deadly Visions with Producer Roma Roth.
Tricia also recently talked about shooting the film and her character Kate at the Humane Society To the Rescue! New York Gala:
I just shot a movie called Deadly Visions. We shot it just outside of Vancouver, Canada. It’s about a mother having nightmares and premonitions that her daughter’s in danger, and really trying to protect her daughter, her number one concern, but having people not believe her and so people start to think that she’s just losing it, and the fight to really believe in herself and believe that she’s, you know, experiencing something. [...] I really got lucky with the little girl Genea [who] played my daughter. Just a class act, spot on, really just technically amazing, some of the stuff that she had to do, and you just had to tell her once and she could get it. And sweet, and throughout an entire month of shooting not one complaint, that she was cold, that she was tired, nothing. It was a pleasure to work with her.
Deadly Visions also stars David Cubitt and Genea Charpentier.
Update: New information from Reel World Management. According to their website, the film has been completed and will be released sometime in 2013. The film also stars Dylan Neal (Blood Ties, Dawson’s Creek, Babylon 5) and Linda Sorensen (Class of 1984), and if you’ll recall the first promotional still from the film from a couple of weeks back, thanks to RWM we’ve now been able to identify the other woman as Estella Warren (Driven, Planet of the Apes, Kangaroo Jack).
Finally, here’s the full synopsis of the film via RWM (warning for spoilers):
Kate Aldrich (Tricia Helfer), a successful architect struggles to take the high road for the sake of their daughter Izzy, since her husband, Dan Beckman, left her for stay-at-home mom, Laura.
Kate who is suffering from an anxiety disorder since being forced to accept joint custody of her daughter, Izzy starts to have terrible visions that someone is going to hurt her daughter. Convinced that Izzy is in danger from her new stepmother, Kate believes the visions are not anxiety attacks but premonitions. As the visions become more intense, Kate confides in her former mother-in-law, Dorothy who still holds a soft spot for her.
Worried that Kate’s condition is worsening, Dorothy breaks Kate’s confidence and tells Dan about the visions. Under additional pressure from Laura, Dan uses the information to argue that Kate is unstable and seeks sole custody of Izzy. Kate is devastated by Dororthy’s betrayal and turns increasingly desperate as the visions intensify. Kate’s only ally is her attorney, Hugh Dinsmore, who reluctantly agrees to dig into Laura’s past to help Kate with the custody battle.
When Dorothy dies in a terrible accident and Kate discovers a secret from Laura’s past she decides to take Izzy across the border to start a new life. When she is caught, it appears her visions may only be the hysteria of a disgruntled ex-wife. And when Dan is attacked and left for dead and Izzy and Laura disappear the truth is finally revealed we realize that all may not be as we first thought.
The film also now has a Facebook-page at www.facebook.com/DeadlyVisions.
