Canadian actress and former model Tricia Helfer is one of Hollywood's rising acting talents, best known for her portrayal of the humanoid Cylon Number Six on Syfy's critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica. More recently, Helfer has starred in e.g. Andrew Paquin’s Open House and appeared as Alex Clark on NBC's The Firm. Helfer is also an active benefactor of animal rights and environmental causes.

In the new clip, Tricia talks about, among other things, pilot season (hell), her recent guest appearance on Community, her upcoming Lifetime movie Deadly Visions (which according to Tricia should be premiering some time this summer), her role in StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm (just released Stateside) as well as an upcoming “blurb” in another, mystery video game, and last, but not least, Max, the latest addition to her feline family (from Kitten Rescue according to Tricia’s Twitter account @trutriciahelfer) — and yes, that should be 11 cats now. 8D
BREAKING NEWS: Battlestar Galactica‘s Tricia Helfer is A Crazy Cat Lady
Tricia Helfer, living legend of the Sci Fi landscape, is coming to Australia very, very soon. As I’m based in Sydney, I was lucky enough to have a chat on the phone with her before she comes to our fair town as a guest of Supanova in Sydney at The Dome on June 16-17, and then on to Perth, at the Claremont Showgrounds, June 23-24.
Hopefully we’ll be chatting with her very soon for The Sci Fi Show. Fingers crossed.
If you didn’t know that she created the central role of Six in what is generally regarded as the best Sci Fi TV series ever made, the revamped Battlestar Galactica, then you may not be as excited as your usual Sci Fi fan. Her character was literally at the beginning and the end of Ron Moore & David Eick’s epic achievement.
Tricia has guest-starred on Human Target, Chuck, Lie To Me, Warehouse 13, Supernatural, Burn Notice and has done voice work on Mass Effect 2 & 3 (as EDI), Halo: ODST, Starcraft 2 and the brand new TRON: Uprising.
In any case, you can learn a little bit more about the actress behind everyone’s favourite sexy lethal (and sometimes invisible) Cylon in this casual chat, where she reveals, among other things, her literally neck-breaking experiences in aeroplanes, riding around on motorcycles with Starbuck and that she is, in fact, a crazy cat lady, which is a tremendous juxtaposition when you’ve made a name for yourself playing robots*.
OH: Hello Tricia, how are you?
TH: I’m good thanks. How are you?
OH: Very well, thank you. It’s been a long time since we last spoke. I was in Sweden the last time we were talking about the season finale of Battlestar Galactica.
TH: Oh wow.
OH: The first question everybody wants to know is ‘How would Tricia Helfer survive the Zombie Holocaust?’
TH: [laughs] Oh gosh, I don’t know. I’m a bit of a tomboy so I would certainly do my best to fight them. But without an arsenal of weaponry at my beck and call I would probably succumb to them. I would join all the zombies in becoming one.
Fun little clip in which Tricia Helfer, her The Firm co-star Juliette Lewis, Wendy Crewson and Sarah Gadon advise on what not do for them on Valentine’s Day. Via Strombo:
As promised, here’s Tricia Helfer’s absolutely terrific appearance on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight (aka. The Hour) last Tuesday in full (sorry for the lagging video, though).

Check out Tricia Helfer and two of her cats, Frankie and Lilly, as featured in the November 15 issue of OK! Magazine. Although the blurb says Tricia only has five cats, we’re pretty sure she actually has 10, all of which she recently counted up in one of her and Katee Sackhoff’s “LA La Ride” broadcasts (the full list comes in at about 7:20). Anyway, check out the scan of Tricia’s kitty page in the mag at our gallery!
Yesterday, Acting Outlaws Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff started off on their second week i.e. day 8 of their 9-day “LA La Ride” from Los Angeles, California to New Orleans, Louisiana. The ride is aimed at raising awareness and funds for the Gulf Restoration Network and Gulf Future.
As always, check back with us again for coverage from today’s ride tomorrow, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled on USTREAM and Tricia and Katee‘s respective Twitter accounts for their daily live video ride recaps! Finally, don’t forget to visit www.actingoutlaws.org to find out how you can help advance the Acting Outlaws cause. Every little helps!
As you will have noticed, things continue to be quiet with Tricia Helfer for the time being. We hope things will pick up soon, though. Meanwhile, have a look at this interesting and insightful article from Pet News and Views, about Tricia’s animal activism and work in support of the Los Angeles-based animal shelter, Kitten Rescue:
Tricia Helfer has always loved cats. When she is away from home, her husband, Jonathan Marshall, sends her updates and photos of each one of their cats. “He knows how important they are to me,” she says. “And in my line of work, it’s nice to know that while I’m away, they are in excellent hands.” Jonathan, who works as an attorney, “is a big animal supporter,” she says. “When we met, he quickly fell in love with my two cats.”
Their family has since grown; there are a few tabbies, a couple of Maine Coons, and a few fosters from Kitten Rescue Sanctuary, a no-kill shelter in Los Angeles. The Sanctuary has a full-time staff as well as numerous volunteers who provide care, love, and socialization for the cats housed there. Since its inception in 1997, Kitten Rescue has grown to become one of the largest animal welfare groups in Los Angeles. Kitten Rescue places approximately 1,000 cats and kittens into new homes every year.
Tricia, who played Number 6 in Battlestar Galactica, found out about Kitten Rescue three years ago while shopping at a local pet store. “One of the employees asked all of the customers to make donations to Kitten Rescue,” she says. “When I handed her a check, she hugged me, and when I was ready to adopt another cat, I adopted from Kitten Rescue. I was so impressed with the Kitten Rescue that I became a volunteer there.”
[...] “Tricia has really been a blessing for Kitten Rescue,” says Ben Lehrer of Kitten Rescue. “Not only has she been incredibly generous in both her personal contributions and in helping with our fundraising efforts, but she has been more than willing to delve into the trenches of street rescue and take on litters of abandoned kittens herself. Her selflessness and enthusiasm are remarkable and we are very fortunate to have her as a member of our team.”
“My dream is to have my own animal shelter. Rescue animals just seen to inherently understand that you’ve helped them.”
- Tricia Helfer in People (US)
Last week, we reported of Tricia Helfer being briefly featured in the current issue of People (US) magazine, a preview of which you’ll find to your right, courtesy of Tricia’s official site. In the article, Tricia discusses her love for animals as well as mentions one of her all-time favorite animal charities, the Los Angeles-based animal shelter, Kitten Rescue.
Now, Kitten Rescue’s YouTube account has a 30s video clip from the set of the new People photoshoot, which has been embedded below for viewing. According to the vid details, Tricia is featured in the November 23 2009 issue of the magazine. If anyone would like to send in a scan from the magazine, please do so! Thank you.
More news via the official site! Tricia Helfer’s official site reports Tricia is featured in the current issues of People (US) as well as the Canadian hockey periodical, The Fourth Period.
While we don’t know which particular issue of People Tricia is featured in (November 2009?), it is presumably the issue we originally reported of already in August this year. In the issue, Tricia talks about her animal charity work and Kitten Rescue. We’ll of course do our best to obtain the magazine for scans, however in the mean time, check one out at Tricia’s official site.
In the Fall 2009 issue of The Fourth Period, Tricia has a six-page feature, including a brand new photo from a shoot we haven’t seen before (previewed to the right in this post). Again, Tricia’s official site has the scans, so be sure to have a look!
Both issues are on newsstands now. If anyone would like to send in their scans from either magazine, please do so, as this time around we might have a bit trouble obtaining them ourselves. Thank you.
