Canadian actress and former model Tricia Helfer is one of Hollywood's rising acting talents, best known for her portrayal of humanoid Cylon Number Six on Syfy's critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica. More recently, Helfer has starred in e.g. Andrew Paquin’s Open House and can currently be seen as Alex Clark on NBC's The Firm. Helfer is also an active benefactor of animal and environmental causes.

Tricia provides the voice of The Grid in the series opposite Elijah Wood, Bruce Boxleitner, Mandy Moore, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, Reginald VelJohnson and Paul Reubens. The show is set to premiere June 7 on Disney XD following the May release of the 30-minute TRON: Uprising: Beck’s Beginning prelude on the internet and on Disney XD.
The Firm may not be on tonight, but that doesn’t mean Tricia isn’t. :) Check her out today presenting the TV Documentary-award with Owain Yeoman at the March Humane Society26th Annual Genesis Awards. The awards show, taped in Los Angeles, CA on March 25, airs today @ 4PM EST/PST on Animal Planet.
According to Tricia Helfer herself via her official Twitter account @trutriciahelfer, Tricia may be heading to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with Battlestar Galactica co-stars Edward James Olmos and Michael Trucco. Via Twitter:

As previously reported, Tricia Helfer attended the Humane Society 26th Annual Genesis Awards in Beverly Hills last night. Tricia looked absolutely lovely at the event in a sleek, black cocktail dress. Check out the first 19 medium-and hi-res photos we’ve found so far in our gallery — more material from this event as it comes in!
The Genesis Awards are awarded annually by The Humane Society of the United States to individuals in the major news and entertainment media for producing outstanding works which raise public awareness of animal issues. The awards will air Saturday, May 5 on Animal Planet.
Update: No clips of Tricia at the event have surfaced online yet, but we are continuously adding new photos to the gallery. Tricia presented the TV Documentary-award at the event with The Mentalist star Owain Yeoman — many thanks to Tricia for kindly responding to our tweet with the info!
Update Mar 28: Preview of the show and a quote from the event from Tricia via Examiner.com.
Tricia Helfer was also a presenter and passionately spoke about how what The Genesis Awards shines the spotlight on can have a positive impact on the planet and its creatures. “It’s about the message of bringing animal protection issues to the forefront. Not just dogs and cats and the cute pets we have at home, it’s also about farm animals and wild life. And that’s what’s important about it. Not everyone knows about the plight of the tigers that are going on India or the shark fishing for shark fin soup, and so it’s important to educate so that people can then make up their mind and be pro-active and try and help. It really is about awareness. Most people do care about animals. And so if they’re aware of what’s going on, then it will motivate people to take action. The more people you can get to do things for animals, the better. This is a way to honor those who have spent an ordinate amount of time being available helping animals.”
According to Tricia Helfer herself via her official Twitter account @trutriciahelfer, Tricia will be presenting tonight at The Humane Society’s 26th Annual Genesis Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. This’ll mark her third consecutive appearance at the annual event.
Every year, The Genesis Awards pays tribute to the major news and entertainment media for producing outstanding works that raise public awareness of animal issues. As much as film, television, print and the web reflect societal attitudes, they also help shape and change those attitudes. The mass media, in all its new and diverse forms, has the power to deliver animal protection issues to vast audiences at the click of a mouse.
But it isn’t just big news stories that The Genesis Awards recognizes and celebrates, it’s movies, documentaries and all categories of TV programming which, by incorporating animal protection themes or messages into their storylines, help increase public consciousness, reminding us that compassion for animals is one of our core human values.
The only awards show of its kind, The Genesis Awards celebrates the media for celebrating animals because it’s our belief that “cruelty can’t stand the spotlight.”
Tricia Helfer appeared on the red carpet at the War Horse Opening Night in Toronto, Canada yesterday. So far we’ve only managed to find two pictures of her at the event, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more.
Tricia is currently in Toronto to film new episodes for The Firm.
Update Mar 3: Two new clips from the event! The first clip cannot be embedded here, so please head over to www.theglobeandmail.com to watch it – Tricia comes in at about 1:17 – but here’s another courtesy of Mirvish Productions (Tricia appears briefly at about 0:51):
First event appearance of 2012! :) Check out these 17 new medium- and hi-res images of Tricia Helfer at the Dog News Daily 1st Annual Golden Collar Awards in Century City, California last night, rewarding dog actors in Hollywood. We’ve finally managed to update the gallery today with the first picture of Tricia Helfer at the 4th Annual Kitten Rescue Fur Ball on October 16. Unfortunately, pictures from the event are still proving hard to find, but we’ll keep looking.
Just a quick heads-up that we’ve updated the gallery with two medium-res photos of Tricia Helfer at Kimberly Ovitz’s ASPCA Benefit on Wednesday. Unfortunately, we’ve yet to find any pictures from last weekend’s Kitten Rescue Fur Ball, but we’ll keep looking. :)
Don’t forget Tricia Helfer will be attending the Kitten Rescue Fur Ball at the House of Blues in Hollywood, CA tomorrow, October 15. Tickets to the event could still be available, so don’t miss out on this prime opportunity to meet Tricia and get your tix now via www.kittenrescue.org! All proceeds from the event will go to Kitten Rescue.
Kitten Rescue is once again organizing its annual Fur Ball benefit this year on October 16 at the House of Blues in Hollywood, CA. We asked Tricia on Twitter whether or not she was planning to attend, and she kindly responded to us as follows:
@triciahelferfan@KittenRescue As long as filming doesn’t pull me away, I’ll be at #TheFurBall and it’s at The House of Blues this year!! (Sep 14)
The Fur Ball at the House of Blues will feature celebrity guests, cocktails and Hors D’Oevres, dinner, live music, a silent auction, raffle and much more! All proceeds of the fundraiser will benefit Kitten Rescue’s programs and the Kitten Rescue Sanctuary. We hope to see you there!
There are two types of tickets available for the Fur Ball: general admission and reserved seating. This event is not a traditional banquet-style fundraiser as we’ve had in the past, and guests will be able to mingle and move around throughout the venue, although there will be plenty of bar and high-table seating available to rest up and have a bite to eat. In addition, there will be a few banquet-style tables set up on the dance floor in front of the main stage; seats at one of these tables will be available on an individual reserved basis or tables may be reserved in their entirety.
General admission tickets are $100 each. Reserved seats are $175 each, or $1600 for an entire table of 10.
Kitten Rescue is one of the largest and most respected animal welfare groups in Los Angeles and one of Tricia’s dearest charities. The annual Fur Ball is therefore a prime opportunity to both meet Tricia (provided her schedule doesn’t get in the way) and contribute to a good cause. Tickets are now available at www.kittenrescue.org.
