Canadian actress and former model Tricia Helfer is one of Hollywood's rising acting talents, best known for her portrayal of the humanoid Cylon Number Six on Syfy's critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica. More recently, Helfer has starred in e.g. Andrew Paquin’s Open House and appeared as Alex Clark on NBC's The Firm. Helfer is also an active benefactor of animal rights and environmental causes.

“I grew up barefoot and running around,” asserts Tricia, crossing her legs as her arms are folded over one another on her lap. A thoughtful look comes across her face. “I didn’t have the worries that you do in the city, or even in the suburbs because there was nobody around. I literally grew up being a kid. When it started raining we’d go out barefoot and get all muddy.”
[...] “After all these years there is still that stigma out there,” she says sternly, wrinkling her brow. “I remember reading some time ago about this boy who was denied access to a Hershey school because he was HIV-positive. His parents took them to court and they won [a settlement]. But the mother decided to send her kid somewhere else,” reports Tricia. She ponders a moment, looks off while playfully biting her lower lip. “Maybe the stigma exists because people are shy when it comes to STDs. Obviously it can be transmitted other ways, but I think people don’t talk about AIDS as freely because it has that element of shame to it, as opposed to, say, breast cancer. [...] Sex is still taboo in America,” she declares with a serious nod, reasoning, “You can’t show a naked body on TV but you can show heads being blown off.”
[...] “Before the gala, we were all supposed to read names from the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Honestly, I was very ignorant. I didn’t know pretty much anything about the Quilt,” she confesses, clasping her hands together. The bikers rode over to the place where the reading was to take place. A woman from the organization debriefed them. Due to rain, they had pitched a tent and only three quilt panels were hanging, not laid out on the grass like they were supposed to be. The woman told them, “You’ll probably be surprised at how emotional it is.” Tricia didn’t take this to heart as she figured she didn’t know anybody on the list. “It… was… remarkable… ,” utters Tricia dropping her voice, staring intently at me, letting out a gigantic gasp. [...] “I was called halfway through our group to read. Chris and Robert went first and they both lost people very close to them, so they were emotional, obviously. I just thought, ‘I’ll be fine, I’ll be fine.’ And then I stood up to that mike and started reading names. A lot of names on my list were first names. I got to about the tenth name and I completely choked up. It was powerful… and intense.”
Just a quick heads-up that, for the third year in a row, Tricia Helfer has joined Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR, “a multi-day, multi-stop motorcycle ride throughout the country, to raise funds and awareness for amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research.” If you want to check out Tricia & co. on the ride, they will next be stopping at:
July 16: Kiehl’s Lenox Square store, Atlanta, GA – 11 am–1 pm July 20: Kiehl’s Georgetown store, Washington, D.C – 6 pm–8 pm July 21: Stop 1: EagleRider store, Fall’s Church, VA – 9:30 am-10:30 am July 21: Stop 2: Kiehl’s at Tysons Corner Center, McLean, VA – 11 am–12 pm
before the ride concludes “in Washington DC on July 21, just before the start of the International AIDS Conference (July 22-27), so riders will be riding into the capital to join the international AIDS community gathered for the conference.” More information at www.looktothestars.org.
Check out this 20-minute documentary about Kiehl’s last year’s LifeRide motorcycle ride for amfAR, the foundation for AIDS research, in which Tricia partook. Tricia appears in glimpses throughout the video and is interviewed briefly starting from 7:48.
Photos from the early August 2011 ride can be viewed in our gallery.
Tricia Helfer will be making a third(!) guest appearance on CBS’ Two and a Half Men!
According to this video interview with Tricia from the ongoing Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR, Tricia will be leaving the ride early to film a new episode for the show starring Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. As many of you will likely have heard, Kutcher will be stepping in to replace Charlie Sheen in the series’ upcoming ninth season.
“I can’t make the whole ride, I have to go home and film Two and a Half Men.”
“I film it next week, it’s all hush-hush, I don’t know anything — I don’t even know any details! I think I’ve a very small part [on the show]. Just exciting to be part of the first show back. I mean, the creators of the show Chuck [Lorre] and Lee [Aronsohn]… It’s just so well written, and Jon’s great, and the two times I worked on the show I had really fun experiences, so I’m just happy to be back.”
Tricia guest starred twice as Chelsea’s (Jennifer Taylor) stunning former college roommate Gail in the show’s 2009-2010 season. Presumably this is who she’ll be reprising in the new episode as well, and if that’s the case she could already be appearing in the September 19 season premiere, at least if this plot “spoiler” from Ace Showbiz is anything to go by:
Meanwhile, all or most of Harper’s ex-girlfriends will be featured in the new season opener which will air September 19 at 9 P.M.
Gail, as some of you will recall, had a brief fling with Sheen’s Charlie Harper in Tricia’s second guest episode, “Ixnay on the Oggie Day”.
The taping for a new episode of Men will take place this Friday, August 5 in front of live audience. To keep secrecy, some key scenes may be filmed separately with no audience and producers will reportedly ban press from the taping.
Shame that Tricia has to miss half the LifeRide for the filming, but great to hear she’s going back to the show. Can’t wait!
Unfortunately, Tricia will not be able to finish the ride with the rest of the group due to filming for Two and a Half Men beginning August 5 in Los Angeles (more information in our post here).

Heads up! Tricia Helfer will be participating in Kiehl’s 2nd Annual LifeRide for amfAR, kickstarting July 31 from Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square. The six-day motorcycle ride up the East Coast, concluding in New York City on August 6, is aimed at raising funds and awareness for amfAR, the foundation for AIDS research.
Join Kiehl’s Since 1851, the venerable New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care, as it embarks on the second annual Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR! The charitable motorcycle ride supports amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research and takes place July 31-August 6, 2011, making five stops along the East Coast to raise funds and awareness for amfAR.
In honor of the ride, on July 31, Kiehl’s Since 1851 at the King of Prussia mall will host a public event inviting customers to enjoy light bites, mingle with Chris Salgardo, President of Kiehl’s USA, and representatives from Kiehl’s and amfAR, to learn more about amfAR and its efforts. For every customer that visits the Kiehl’s store at King of Prussia on this date, Kiehl’s will donate $5 to amfAR, up to a $5,000 total donation. Kiehl’s will present the donation to amfAR at the event. In the spirit of giving, Kiehl’s will also offer a Celebration Discount of 15% off all purchases at King of Prussia on July 31.
On Saturday, August 6, this year’s LifeRide – a six-day ride up the East Coast – will conclude in New York City. We are expecting 30 riders in this year’s LifeRide and hope to have an additional 130 riders join us as we ride up 3rd Avenue, 160 strong, for the final stop; a free block party BBQ at the Flagship Kiehls store at 109 3rd Avenue from 12pm-4pm. The overall event and BBQ is meant to be a fun celebration of the completion of the ride, recognize the overall donation of $100,000 to amfAR, commemorate Kiehl’s 160th Anniversary and most importantly raise awareness of AIDS/HIV research.
More information as we get it. Meanwhile, check out some photos from last year’s inaugural ride in our gallery here and here.
