Canadian actress and former model Tricia Helfer is one of Hollywood's rising acting talents, best known for her portrayal of humanoid Cylon Number Six on Syfy's critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica. More recently, Helfer has starred in e.g. Andrew Paquin’s Open House and can currently be seen as Alex Clark on NBC's The Firm. Helfer is also an active benefactor of animal and environmental causes.

According to a new press release from The Hallmark Channel, the upcoming Christmas movie Mistletoe Over Manhattan will be premiering Sunday, November 6 at 8PM ET/PT, 7c on Hallmark as part of their “Countdown to Christmas”. Tricia Helfer stars in the film as Lucy opposite Tedde Moore, Greg Bryk, Mairtin O’Carrigan and Damon Runyan.
Rebecca, Mrs. Claus (Moore) is worried that her exhausted, workaholic husband (O’Carrigan) has lost his holiday spirit. She believes she can help him recapture his bliss and secretly heads to the one place she knows the spirit of Christmas must still exist, the place she fell in love with Nick – New York City. In a crowded diner, Rebecca befriends Joe (Bryk), a caring cop who is worried about this kindly grandmother, who’s alone and low on funds. Joe reveals he and his wife Lucy are in the middle of a divorce. Sensing that Joe is still very much in love with his wife, Rebecca agrees to work temporarily as the family’s nanny until Christmas. To Rebecca’s delight, by healing Joe and Lucy’s family, she shows Santa that Christmas miracles are still possible and his job’s more important than ever!
It’s been a long time since we last had anything on Eric Wostenberg’s upcoming thriller Phase One, in which Tricia Helfer stars as Dr. Wilcox opposite Travis Van Winkle, John Bregar, Eric Roberts and Mircea Monroe, however we finally have some news, and some great news at that!
According to The Sudbury Star’s recent interview with producer Brandon Nutt about the making of the film, Phase One has landed a DVD distribution deal with Lightning Entertainment. Although an exact release date remains to be announced, the film will be premiering tonight at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival. The plot synopsis:
Best friends Greg (Van Winkle) and Rob (Bregar), college roommates, decide to earn a little extra cash by participating in a two-week pharmaceutical test over the Christmas holidays. Locked into a remote hospital facility far out in the isolated countryside, they find themselves part of a bizarre series of tests. But as order and control start to break down, it becomes clear that drugs are having increasingly dangerous side effects, and that no one involved in the test will be safe for long.

We finally have some more details on Tricia Helfer’s involvement in the upcoming TV movie Mistletoe Over Manhattan, filming for which wrapped a couple of weeks ago in Ontario, Canada.
According to this press release from The Hallmark Channel, Tricia will be appearing in the film as Lucy opposite Greg Bryk, Tedde Moore, Mairtin O’Carrigan and (although not mentioned in the press release) Damon Runyan. The film will be premiering this Christmas on The Hallmark Channel.

More DVD news! Straight.com reports Mark Leiren-Young’s faux-documentary about environmental activism in Canada, The Green Chain, in which Tricia Helfer stars as actress Leila Cole, will be released on Region 1 / North American DVD June 8. You can pre-order your copy via Amazon.ca.
Although The Green Chain was filmed as far back as in 2007, it did not receive a theatrical release until Spring 2009 in Canada. Babz Chula, Jillian Fargey, Brendan Fletcher, Scott McNeil as well as Tricia’s Battlestar Galactica co-star Tahmoh Penikett also star.
According to Amazon.com‘s product listings, Andrew Paquin’s home invasion thriller Open House, in which Tricia Helfer stars as Lila opposite Brian Geraghty, Rachel Blanchard, Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin, will be released on Region 1 / North American DVD and Blu-Ray August 3 2010. Both the DVD and Blu-Ray are available for pre-order via their store at $23.99 and $26.99 respectively. As of yet, there is no word on a Region 2 / European release. This means, however, that Open House is going straight to DVD in the U.S.
Variety reports writer-director Andrew Paquin’s home invasion thriller Open House has landed a U.S. distribution deal. The indie production starring Tricia Helfer as Lila opposite Brian Geraghty and Rachel Blanchard has been looking for distribution since its April world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Grindstone Entertainment has picked up all domestic distribution rights to Open House starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Rachel Blanchard, Brian Geraghty and Tricia Helfer.
The pic is helmed by Pacquin’s brother, Andrew, and is about a woman played by Blanchard who is kidnapped and held captive in her own home by two sociopaths played by Geraghty and Helfer during an open house event.
