BREAKING NEWS: Battlestar Galactica‘s Tricia Helfer is A Crazy Cat Lady
Tricia Helfer, living legend of the Sci Fi landscape, is coming to Australia very, very soon. As I’m based in Sydney, I was lucky enough to have a chat on the phone with her before she comes to our fair town as a guest of Supanova in Sydney at The Dome on June 16-17, and then on to Perth, at the Claremont Showgrounds, June 23-24.
Hopefully we’ll be chatting with her very soon for The Sci Fi Show. Fingers crossed.
If you didn’t know that she created the central role of Six in what is generally regarded as the best Sci Fi TV series ever made, the revamped Battlestar Galactica, then you may not be as excited as your usual Sci Fi fan. Her character was literally at the beginning and the end of Ron Moore & David Eick’s epic achievement.
Tricia has guest-starred on Human Target, Chuck, Lie To Me, Warehouse 13, Supernatural, Burn Notice and has done voice work on Mass Effect 2 & 3 (as EDI), Halo: ODST, Starcraft 2 and the brand new TRON: Uprising.
In any case, you can learn a little bit more about the actress behind everyone’s favourite sexy lethal (and sometimes invisible) Cylon in this casual chat, where she reveals, among other things, her literally neck-breaking experiences in aeroplanes, riding around on motorcycles with Starbuck and that she is, in fact, a crazy cat lady, which is a tremendous juxtaposition when you’ve made a name for yourself playing robots*.
OH: Hello Tricia, how are you?
TH: I’m good thanks. How are you?
OH: Very well, thank you. It’s been a long time since we last spoke. I was in Sweden the last time we were talking about the season finale of Battlestar Galactica.
TH: Oh wow.
OH: The first question everybody wants to know is ‘How would Tricia Helfer survive the Zombie Holocaust?’
TH: [laughs] Oh gosh, I don’t know. I’m a bit of a tomboy so I would certainly do my best to fight them. But without an arsenal of weaponry at my beck and call I would probably succumb to them. I would join all the zombies in becoming one.
Just a quick heads-up that Tricia Helfer has confirmed via her official Twitter account @trutriciahelfer that she will both have a (guest?) role in the animated series TRON: Uprising (set to premiere in 2012) and reprise Sarah Kerrigan in the upcoming StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm video game.
Been reading for my #Starcraft VO session 2moro – can’t wait to bring Kerrigan/Queen of Blades to life again! (Jul 15)

She also confirms that she is not involved in the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome pilot. Courtesy of TriciaHelfer.com:
Tricia’s official site is still looking for new fan questions for Tricia to answer — if you have one, don’t hesitate to send it over to asktricia@triciahelfer.com. The first pictures are in! Check out these first two photos of Tricia Helfer at the ongoing2010 Spike Video Game Awards in Los Angeles, CA. Tricia is looking absolutely stunning at the event in a strapless sparkly Alice + Olivia dress. Tons more VGA pics coming up!
Tricia is nominated at this year’s VGAs for Best Performance by a Human Female for voicing Sarah Kerrigan in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. The show will begin in 15 minutes; fingers crossed she’ll win!
Update: We now have 11 photos of Tricia at the still ongoing VGAs in the gallery. Nothing on Tricia’s category yet…
Update 2: Well, the show’s over, but still nothing on Tricia’s category. According to Wikipedia, this is the first time not all awards were awarded during the show, and it would appear the Best Performance by a Human Female-category is one of those that got left out of it. We’ll just have to wait for an announcement, I guess.
Update Dec 12: Tricia winsBest Performance by a Human Female! Congratulations! Shame we didn’t get to see it happen. Or as Tricia herself put it via her official Twitter account @trutriciahelfer…
Ya, it’s pretty lame that best human male got airtime but not best human female. What era are we in? (Dec 12)
Our thoughts exactly. Meanwhile, though, we have more new pics + the first HQs in the gallery!
To begin with, Tricia will be on hand at this year’s Spike Video Game Awards, where she is up for Best Performance by a Human Female for voicing Sarah Kerrigan in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. The VGAs will be broadcast live on Spike this Saturday, December 11 beginning 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT. Catch it if you can!
Going to be at Spike’s #VGA (video game awards) on Sat. I’m up for Best Performance by a Human Female for #Starcraft. Should be fun! (Dec 9)
I’m wearing a short little sparkly number by Alice & Olivia. (Dec 9)
More video game voice work for Tricia! Tricia Helfer made a surprise appearance at this weekend’s BlizzCon 2009 ‘StarCraft II Lore’ Panel in Anaheim, California, where it was announced she would be donning her voice to character Sarah Kerrigan/the Queen of Blades. Congrats on the new project, Tricia!
While we’ve yet to find video footage of Tricia’s panel appearance and only a handful of medium-res photos, some gaming websites were able to follow the event live, and have posted coverage from the panel. Below are some relevant panel discussion excerpts from GameSpot:
[2:42] After replacing the original Kerrigan, a move that caused some measure of uproar on the forums, Metzen introduces Tricia Helfer, best known as Six on Battlestar Galactica.
[3:04] Metzen now moves to Tricia Helfer, the new Kerrigan. Metzen asks if there are any Battlestar Galactica fans in the room, and the crowd goes absolutely nuts.
[3:04] Helfer says that it’s very intimidating to come into a game that you don’t really know the history of. “I’m kind of a video game virgin in terms of playing.”
[3:04] “Frogger was the last game I played, and that was in the 80s.”
[3:06] She says her experience on Battlestar has helped with the role of Kerrigan, as well as “voicing more than that character for the game.” She will also be voicing the Queen of Blades, as they stem from the same person.
[3:06] She says that it was interesting trying to bring in the character of Kerrigan into the voice of Queen of Blades, who is apparently fun to play due to her diabolical nature.
[3:07] She says that her role will be fairly light in the first installment in the game. “Cut to next year, and I’ll have a lot more to say.”
[3:08] A lot of the scenes Helfer will be doing in the first game will be delivered as flashbacks from the original Starcraft storyline.
[3:20] Helfer says that taking acting lessons really helps in this process, as it really teaches you the prep work involved. As she is newer at voice work, she finds that she has to visualize the character more so than when she herself is in front of a camera.
[3:29] Next question: Is the cast on stage all signed for all three games?
[3:29] The actors appear to be keen on returning.
[3:29] Helfer chimes in, “I know you don’t, I know you don’t,” to which Metzen replies, “Yeah, I’m going to leave it at that.”
